PGI Lilantio Pedio (ΠΓΕ Ληλάντιο Πεδίο)

In the island district of Evia, in the eastern part of Central Greece, the PGI Lilantio Pedio (ΠΓΕ Ληλάντιο Πεδίο) zone, established in1994, comprises the areas of Afrati, Mytikas and Fylla, of the Lilantio municipality, and the area of Dokos, of the municipality of Chalkida.

The vineyards yielding the PGI Lilantio Pedio wines are south of Chalkida, in the west and central part of Evia, at the foot of Mount Dirfys. The area has an age-old tradition in winegrowing as it is linked to the Savvatiano variety and the production of Retsina. Although neither link was ever severed, the zone’s profile has changed drastically. This is reflected in the extensive 2009 revision which broadened the zone’s vine selection as well as increase the number of the types of wines it can produce.
