PGI Kissamos (ΠΓΕ Κίσσαμος)

In the district of Chania, in Crete’s western end, the PGI Kissamos (ΠΓΕ Κίσσαμος) zone (est.1990) comprises the municipal areas of Voukolies, Innachori, Kissamos, Kolymvari and Mythimni.

The PGI Kissamos vineyards are planted in the northwestern part of the district of Chania. “Marouvas”, the area’s traditional and exceptionally popular wine, is a high-alcohol red which ages in huge barrels, acquiring features which are intensely reminiscent of Madeira wines.
