Winegrowing regions
Greek vineyards are among the world’s oldest and have produced wines for thousands of years. Vineyards are found on diverse soil and terrain, at altitudes varying between sea level and often in excess of 1,000m (~3,280 ft). Delineated viticultural zones dot the entire country; continental and island areas alike.
Appellations and Classifications
Wines from specific Greek regions and producers are becoming as iconic as the regions that birth them, as a renaissance of Greek wine consumption spreads around the globe. Many viticultural regions of Greece’s 33 PDOs and more than 100 PGIs have roots that run deep in their soils of antiquity and custom.
Wineries
Greek Wines, with their performance and unique character, have earned a deserved place on the table of every demanding oenophile who knows and looks for something different, rare and distinct. This requires gifted people who combine their long experience with fresh ideas and many decades of hard work. These people are the keen and enthusiastic Greek winegrowers, who sometimes are viticulturists themselves and have built this impressive edifice of new Greek wines from the vineyard to the bottle.
Wine Tourism
Greece has long been a top holiday destination for international visitors. A fact less known is Greece’s immense range of wine tourism experiences available throughout the country. One visit to Greece can convert any tourist into a lifelong wine ambassador.
