PGI Pisatis (ΠΓΕ Πισάτις)
In the district of Ilia, in the central part of western Peloponnese, the PGI Pisatis (ΠΓΕ Πισάτις) zone (est.2000) comprises parts of the municipalities of Amaliada, Ancient Olympia, Iardanos, Lasion and Foloi.
The vineyards yielding the PGI Pisatis wines comprise all of Ilia’s central/western part, including the area of Ancient Olympia, which is of enormous archeological interest. As for Pisatis, the zone’s name, it was one of the areas once comprising ancient Ilis, along with Akroria, Kili Ilis and Trifilia (which now belongs to Messinia).
