PGI Slopes of Vertiskos (ΠΓΕ Πλαγιές Βερτίσκου)

The demarcated area for the production of PGI Slopes of Vertiskos (ΠΓΕ Πλαγιές Βερτίσκου) wines comprises the area of Vertiskos in the north-east of the prefecture of Thessaloniki, at an altitude of more than 500 meters.

Characteristics

Vertiskos is a mountain located in the north-central part of Thessaloniki’s prefecture and most of the vineyards are planted on its southwestern slopes. This is a hilly region with severe winters and relatively mild summers.

The grape varieties
A number of both native and international varieties are cultivated in the PGI Slopes of Vertiskos. Some typical grapes are the white Malagousia and the Xinomavro and Cabernet Sauvignon reds. Rosé wines are exclusively produced from indigenous varieties.
