PGI Ilia (ΠΓΕ Ηλεία)

The PGI Ilia zone (est.2004) comprises the homonymous district in the central segment of Peloponnese’s western part. Zone vineyards must be planted at altitudes ranging from 10 to 700 meters.

Up until 10 years ago, Ilia’s two PGI wines (from the zones of Letrina and Pisatis) covered the district’s wine production. But the opening of new wineries in other areas as well made it necessary to establish the PGI Ilia zone whose varietal range was broadened in 2008. At present, there are five wineries within the zone.
