PGI Pieria (ΠΓΕ Πιερία)
The PGI Pieria (ΠΓΕ Πιερία) zone (est.2008) comprises the district of the same name in central Macedonia. Zone vineyards must be planted at altitudes exceeding 50m.
Despite its long winegrowing tradition, Pieria is a relatively new entry on Greece’s wine map. Most of its vineyards today and all of its wineries are found in the district’s northern section, from Litohoro on up. At present, there are only two zone wineries producing PGI Pieria wines but it is considered certain that more will follow.
