Ktima Voyatzi
Voyatzi family was from Velvento, a picturesque town in Western Macedonia located 33km southeast of Kozani, on the foothills of Pieria Mountains, by the Lake Polyfytos. Members of the third family generation, Yannis, who has studied oenology at the University of Bordeaux, France and has substantial experience in the Greek wine production, along with his brother, Nico, who is an engineer, and their father, Harissis, created in the years 1991-1994 a new, modern privately owned 100 acre vineyard aiming at the production of high-quality wines of a distinctive character.
The vineyards is situated next to the lake at an altitude of 340 meters. Its location next to the water that almost touches the vineyard, is the powerful element, which makes the wines of the estate different. Even though the climate is continental, the mild local lacustrine aura that grows during the day, balances temperature and keeps humidity high. In the sandy-loam and clay-loam soils, many local Greek grape varieties are cultivated.
Our goal is to highlight the Greek grape varieties through wines of high quality and special character. Assyriko, Xinomavro and Tsapournakos (clone Cabernet Franc) are the main varietals of the estate, which coexist with several other local varieties. From the creation of the vineyard we apply the principles of organic agriculture.
The winery is equipped with visitor reception and wine tasting facilities. The tour includes a visit in the production areas and the cellar of the winery. Visitors have, also, the opportunity to taste the estate’s wines, through the special tastings that take place in the modern tasting room, overlooking the vineyards and the lake.
