PGI Tegea (ΠΓΕ Τεγέα)
In the district of Arkadia (Arcadia), in the center of the Peloponnese, the PGI Tegea (ΠΓΕ Τεγέα) zone (est.1993) comprises parts of the municipalities of Valtetsi, Northern Kynouria, Skyritida, Tegea and Tripoli.
The area of Tegea, which lent its name to the PGI Tegea wines, is south/southeast of Tripoli and is of great archeological interest. In the days before the 2009 revision brought the changes governing the greater geographical area corresponding to the PGI Arkadia, the PGI Tegea zone gave the area’s reds their own identity, since it was mostly known for its production of PDO Mantinia wines from the Moschofilero variety.
