PGI Slopes of Knimida (ΠΓΕ Πλαγιές Κνημίδας)

In the district of Fthiotida, region of Central Greece, the PGI Slopes of Knimida (ΠΓΕ Πλαγιές Κνημίδας) zone (est.1998) comprises the areas of Kalapodi and Megaplatanos in the Atalanti municipality, of Zeli in the municipality of Elatia, of Agnandi in the Agios Konstantinos municipality and of Goulemi in the Dafnousa municipality. Zone vineyards must be planted at altitudes above 150 meters.

Knimida is the eastern extension of Mount Kallidromo. Together, both mountains are the eastern tip of the Oeti mountain range which divides Fthiotida into two. Most vineyards yielding PGI Slopes of Knimida wines are planted on the southern slopes of the mountain, overlooking the Valley of Atalanti. A small part of the vineyards is to be found on the northern side, overlooking Agios Konstantinos. The zone somewhat overlaps with the ΡGI Valley of Atalanti and PGI Opountia Lokrida zones.

Types of wines:

• White dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, sweet
• Rosé dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet
• Red dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, sweet

Varieties:

White Wines: Athiri, Assyrtiko, Kontokladi, Malagousia, Roditis, Robola, Savatiano, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Ugni Blanc (max 20%).

Red Wines: Vradiano, Limnio, Mavroudi, Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Grenache rouge, Merlot, Refosco, Syrah.

Rosé wines: from the varieties participating in the white and red wines.
