PGI Pylia (ΠΓΕ Πυλία)

In district of Messinia, in Peloponnese’s southwestern part, the PGI Pylia(ΠΓΕ Πυλία) zone (est.1989) comprises the municipalities of Aepia, Voufrades, Koroni, Methoni, Papaflessas, Petalidi, Pylos and Hiliohoria. Zone vineyards must be planted at altitudes exceeding 50m.

The PGI Pylia vineyards cover the entire southwestern part of Messinia, an area where the winegrowing tradition has enjoyed a long and thriving course. Nevertheless, in contrast to the neighboring area of the PDO Trifilia, the PGI Pylia zone has few wineries of its own. Subsequently, most of the zone’s wine production finds its way to other wineries outside the zone.
