PGI Nea Messimvria (ΠΓΕ Νέα Μεσημβρία)

In the district of Thessaloniki, in the southern part of central Macedonia, the PGI Nea Messimvria  (ΠΓΕ Νέα Μεσημβρία) zone, established in 1989, lies within the bounds of in the Agios Athanassios municipal area.
The area of Nea Messimvria lies northwest of Thessaloniki’s urban sprawl. In the early 20th century the area was settled by refugees from Thrace and Turkey who brought with them their own winegrowing tradition. Today, the area remains one of Thessaloniki’s most important wine zones.

Types of wines:

  • White dry, semi-dry
  • Red dry, semi-dry

Varieties:

White Wines: Malagousia, Roditis, Zoumiatiko, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay.

Red Wines: Limnio, Cabernet sauvignon, Cinsault, Grenache Rouge, Merlot, Syrah.
