PGI Markopoulo (ΠΓΕ Μαρκόπουλο)

In the district of eastern Attiki (Attica), region of Attiki which includes the capital Athens, the PGI Markopoulo (ΠΓΕ Μαρκόπουλο) zone, established in 1993, is delimited by the bounds of the Markopoulo Mesogeas municipality.

Markopoulo is a short distance from Athens, the heartland of the greater Mesogia area, the part of Attiki northeast and east of Mt. Hymettus. Despite the prevailing trend towards urbanization, the area is still planted with a number of vineyards where the Savvatiano variety is cultivated. There are six area wineries producing PGI Markopoulo wines.

100% Savatiano or up to 80% Savatiano and the rest Assyrtiko, Athiri, Roditis Malagouzia, Aidani Aspro.
