PGI Krania (ΠΓΕ Κρανιά)

In the district of Larissa, in the eastern part of Thessalia (Thessaly) region, the PGI Krania (ΠΓΕ Κρανιά) zone, established in 2002, is identified with the area of the Krania municipality in the Lower Olympus area. Zone vineyards must be planted at altitudes ranging from 350 to 750 meters.

The small zone of PGI Krania is situated in the northeastern mountainous part of the district of Larissa, on MountOlympus’ eastern slopes. Initially, the zone was part of the PDO Rapsani zone but was later split off so that it might be planted with international varieties. As a result, the PGI Krania wine is one of only few in Greece that are exclusively produced with foreign varieties.
