PGI Kozani (ΠΓΕ Κοζάνη)

The PGI Kozani (ΠΓΕ Κοζάνη) zone (est.2008) lies within the bounds of the homonymous district in southwestern Macedonia. Vineyards must be planted at altitudes exceeding 250m.

The winegrowing and winemaking tradition of Kozani is a time-honored one, especially in the areas of Velventos and Siatista where the respective PGI zones were established. In recent years, however, new wineries opened their doors in other areas as well, and the range of Greek and foreign varieties that are successfully cultivated in the area expanded, thus necessitating the establishment of the PGI Kozani.
