PGI Elassona (ΠΓΕ Ελασσόνα)

The PGI Elassona (ΠΓΕ Ελασσόνα) zone comprises the area of the Elassona municipality, in the northern section of Thessalia region’s Larissa district. The vineyards must be at altitudes of over 200 m.

The Elassona area is just north of the PGI Tyrnavos zone. Grapes began to be cultivated in earnest in the first decade of the 21st century on the southwestern slopes of Mt Olympus, Greece΄s highest mountain. Bottled wines from Elassona have been available since 2002. This production received PGI Elassona designation in late 2010.

Varieties

White Wines: Debina, Roditis, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Ugni Blanc.

Red Wines: Hamburg Muscat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah.

Rosé wines: from the varieties used in white and red wines.
