Hesiod, who lived in the 8th century BC, wrote his famous poem “Works and Days” in the area of Viotia around 750 BC, while enjoying wine he made himself from “imported” vines of the Vivlia grape variety. Hesiod and Vivlinos oenos have provided us with invaluable information on winegrowing and winemaking techniques of the times which included production of straw wines or vin liastos.
